My birthday was the best birthday ever. Cali came in from Houston and Chris came in from Arlington to party with me on my 21st birthday. Danielle came along with us and we hit up 6th street and I got all my free shots and a free t-shirt!!! I had an absolute blast.

But what made it the best was an email I received about 30 minutes before we left for 6th street:

March 4, 2005

Dear Katherine:

I am pleased to offer you a position in our Biochemistry Summer Undergraduate Research Program for 2005 (May 31 - August 5).

I hope you will join us this summer, and I look forward to meeting you!

Gary Kunkel
Associate Professor
Director of NSF-REU Summer Program
Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics
Texas A&M University

I absolutely screamed. People ask me what my major is and I tell them Biochemistry and they say it sounds hard. It is hard, don't get me wrong, but I love biochemistry. I love knowing why things do the things they do and how things in our bodies work on the molecular level. I learn something new everyday.

I sent out three other applications to UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, Southwestern University, and the Medical College of Wisconsin. I still have not received any letters/emails of acceptance/rejection from those schools yet.

It's nice to see how my hard work is starting to pay off. I am so excited!!I get to be an Aggie for the Summer of 2005!!! WHOOP!!!

Gosh it has been crazy!!! Last night I worked SWAT with Danielle and we had a blast. We gave 20 rides and rocked out the whole time. All of our rides were also very entertaining! After SWAT we went to the All Niter Diner on the Square and have all you can eat pancakes for $3!!! It was so kick ass.

Last week I thought I had lost my workout pass but I found it today at the front desk at the Rec. I was so glad I didnt have to spend the extra money to get a replacement. My goal is to lose 5 pounds by my birthday, which is only 2 weeks away!! Yay, I'll be 21!!!

I have got a busy week ahead of me, not as busy as last week's though. I am still waiting for my first paycheck from the research lab, hopefully that will be soon! My micro test last week seemed pretty easy and I think I only missed 2 multiple choice questions ~ Kick Ass!!!!

Cali sent me pictures of her ring and some of her dress choices!! Gosh this wedding stuff is SO exciting!!! I can't wait to start planning all the showers!!!

Anyhow, I have a methods test this week and lots of lab stuff to do!! Have an awesome week!

So this semester I tried something different. I kept going to the rec and finding every square inch of that darn place covered with a human body. Needless to say I was never going to get a real good workout, the kind where you are just exhausted at the end. So I went and bought this "Group Fitness Pass" for $50 and its so amazing!! Not only are you guaranteed a workout, you are guaranteed to get one heck of a work out. Gosh I love it, my friend Danielle talked me into buying the pass, and I cant say anything bad about it!!

So the constant Napoleon Dynamite quotes from me and my classmates is kinda getting old. I really do love that movie and sometimes you just have to "do what ever i feel like, gosh". hehehe, I had to put that in there. That is one heck of an awesome movie, I love it!!!

Lent starts tomorrow. For me that means only one big meal and no meat. The meat part wont be hard given the fact that you cant find real meat on this campus in the first place. I will only make a few exceptions, but those exceptions are hard to come by.

We finally got a new suitemate. I am still not quite sure what to think about her.

I LOVE not having Friday classes! This week I am leaving on Thursday night to drive out to Arlington for the entire weekend, I'm thinking even Monday morning! =)

Well I think I am going to start studying! Take care!

Ahh it's 2005!!! A new year and more resolutions that will never last after the month of January. That is why my resolution this year is to make no resolutions; just set goals and achieve them at no cost. Sounds good to me.

For Christmas, my parents got me Gilmore Girls Season 2 on DVD and I am so mad that season 3 is not out yet. I finished the whole box tonight; dont get me wrong I have been watching them since Christmas.

I am also very excited that my jeep is getting repainted so it will no longer look like there is snow on the top of the jeep. Too sad, I was starting to get used to it ever since Christmas Eve!!!! Hah snow on Christmas Eve, what are the chances in southeast Texas?? Obviously very good this year.

I have no idea what I am doing for the rest of the break. I think I might make another trip to Arlington to spend time with Christopher. I really enjoy being up there, at least this time I would have some idea of what to do when I am up there.

Anyhow thats it for now. Have a safe New Years!!

Dec. 17th, 2004 @ 01:30 pm I am kind of disappointed....
Grades are in and I got 2a's and 2b's instead of 3a's.... Oh well, I already sent an email to the prof with the grade in question.

I am loving it up here in Arlington. There are so many places to go and I just got done eating with Christopher's work buddies and bosses. Very fun. We went to Ton's Mongolian Grill, very neat place!

I think I may go shopping, or window looking again at one of the malls.

Beall really is a bastard...

Can you believe it?
I cant.
My first final is in 4 days.

Now with that said, its going to be a very loooong week. I have a biochem final Thursday at 8 am and a geography final on Friday at 8 am. Whoever decided 8 am finals were a good thing is going to get kicked. I havent had to wake up for a test at 8 am (excluding finals) for any class because I have never had an 8 am class. Lucky me!

Anyhow, last night the gang (Me, Brian, Megan, and Kenny) went to Sights and Sounds in San Marcos. I sincerely believe that is has become so much more popular and therefore it was extremely hard to walk around and not run into people last night. We also ran into a lot of our classmates, kinda cool. We also ate at Mamacita's. The last time I ate there was my freshman year, but let me tell you, they have THE best tortillas. So good. Meg and I had fun!

I am done working for the semester. Working 25 hours a week and all of classes has really really drained me. I decided next semester that I am not working at all. I may just have to mooch off the rents for a while (for the first time in my college career), but i just dont want to work. After finals are over, I am going to spend a whole week in Arlington with Christopher and when I am there I'll be able to meet up with some friends and with my Uncle Daniel.

I think that is it for now. I really need to get started on my pchem test, especially if I want to go to Arlington on the 20th. Good luck to everyone with finals!!!!

I dont even know where to begin.

School: Right now I am sitting with 3 A's and hopefully 1 B.  Its so strange how I can kick ass in my science classes but I can not write a transmittal letter for my tech writing class. Someone told me to take Tilka for 3303 and they were so wrong. She is horrible. So for any of you who still have to take tech writing 3303 do yourself a favor and do not sign up for tilka, you will thank me later.

Teaching: Being lab instructor for three chemistry labs this semester has been so awesome. I have grown to know each of the kids and they are awesome. I had to substitute teach for a lab this week and during the course of the lab the kids were really rude to me. Also there were two couples in there that would rather have done it on the lab tables then do their labs. Lets just say there was more chemistry going on in that room that I expected. I dont know if I will be teaching labs next semester or not. I want to teach at least one but I have to find room in my schedule for that to happen.

My schedule next semester looks something like this:
Microbiology
Microbiology Lab
Physical Methods in Biochemistry
Psychology
Biochem Techniques
Biochem Techniques Lab
Dr. Feakes Research Lab

Christopher and I are doing awesome. I just cant wait until I get to go home for Thanksgiving. My body is definently starting the turkey cravings. I also get to give Chris' parents the scrapbook I made for them for taking me on the cruise this summer. I really hope they like it. I need to finish it though!!! I guess that is it for now, I'll add more later!

So we got our grades back from the first take home p-chem test. 69. WTF. Its not the grade that bothers me so much as the people that worked together (against the teacher's discretion) got grades higher than the class average, 77. So basically, if I worked with someone else I would have been able to get a better grade. As I was thinking this in class after I wanted to punch the daylights out of my prof, I joined a group that did pretty well and we are all set for the next take home test that starts this Thursday. Besides, its only one test and I am going to work my ass off on the next one for sure!!

Anyhow, I went to the Texas State Fair this weekend!! It was so awesome!! I got to see all of my baby goats!! I uploaded the best pictures from the weekend on my pictures website http://briefcase.yahoo.com/smalls1612 .  If you click on the Texas State Fair folder, the pictures are in there.

Saturday Christopher and I went with my Uncle Daniel to a ritzy restaurant/jazz bar. It was so much fun. He even bought me drinks and the waiter didnt even ID me!! So cool! Anyhow, before we left, he gave the piano player a ten dollar tip to play a song for me. The song was "Aint Misbehavin'". So cool.

I also got grades back in other classes and I did pretty good.  Hopefully this week wont be too stressful!!!
